The First Thing You Need To Do Before Starting a Home-Based Business
At-home businesses and side gigs are becoming more and more popular, especially with the internet and social media so readily available. However, we commonly see couples make this one mistake that could be detrimental to their business!
The first thing that needs to be done when starting a business, is:
Ask permission from your significant other.
This doesn’t just apply to a wife asking her husband, it applies to all relationships! We know what you’re thinking: “What!? This is the modern day! Women don’t need to ask a man for anything!!” And yet, we see so many marriages affected left and right by it.
We see most women start their business by being excited and passionate, which is awesome!! You should be excited and passionate about what you’re doing in life. However, once they start working more towards it, it becomes more of a chore and less of a hobby. She starts neglecting things in her life, including her family.
There is an easy fix to all of this!
Before starting an at-home business, sit down with your partner and have a discussion:
- Paint your vision and explain why you are going to be working more.
- Lay out all of your expectations for each other so neither party will be surprised down the road.
- Let them know that you need time now to work hard so that later on down the road you will have time freedom.
- Ask your partner if they are ok with you doing this. Most partners just want to feel like they have a voice and an opinion, and they will be totally fine with you proceeding!
If you do this one simple step, we promise it will help alleviate some of the strife that comes with starting an at-home business. We can’t promise it will be easy! It’s going to take hard work and dedication, but by having that conversation with your spouse before starting, you will have support for your business!
